Adultery in United Kingdom (UK) is described as the act whereby a married person has had a sexual relationship with a member of the opposite sex who is not the legally recognised partner (In marriage counseling the term Adultery may also be referred to as Infidelity). The Family Court of Law can grant a divorce should the other partner be able to prove the act of adultery. It is therefore important to fully understand the UK divorce law governing Adultery. According to UK divorce law adultery is only legally recognised if a partner is proven to have had a sexual relationship with a member of the opposite sex. A partner must have proof that adultery has taken place.
Adultery is only legally recognised if the divorce proceedings commences within the first six months of it having been proven. This time limit however only applies if the couple continue to cohabitate after the adultery has been proven.

In passing judgement the Family Court of Law will not take into consideration which partner has committed the act of adultery, which also includes the division of the assets and the custodianship of the children.
