Divorce rate has shown that Christian couples are less likely to get divorced and are more likely to lead happier lives, with more stable state of mind, than couples who do not have faith. It is common knowledge that people, when faced with crisis, specially if they have been in long term therapy (be it marriage counseling, or any other form of counseling), will eventually turn to religion and spirituality in the hope of bringing peace to their lives. Interestingly enough, statistics has also shown that these people actually do make a better progression with their relationship counseling.

A research into 1,902 twins, carried out by the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, found that the twin who was committed to a spiritual life were less likely to suffer from depression and had a lower risk of addiction to drugs or alcohol than the one who was not. It also showed that they led healthier lifestyle, and that their marriages were also more stable. It was also shown that faith and spirituality were not the sole contributing factors, as it the twins who were part of a spiritual community formed a network that held and supported one another.

Another research has also shown that people who lead a spiritual life tend to have lower blood pressure and are less likely to suffer from depression and stress. All of which, lead to happier marriages.

At this stage it is important to point out that there are certain extremist sects within most religions, including Christianity, that encourage and impose "extreme" repression and self-judgment. Therefore, the very vulnerable may all too easily fall victim to the worst that these extremist sects have to offer. It is absolutely vital to avoid these sects at all costs.
