Inside Islam |
| Description
Watching this enthralling documentary, one inevitably wonders how Islam, a beautiful religion, could have become synonymous with fear and hatred, even after 9/11. Inside Islam explores the historic and poetic wellspring of the Muslim people and illuminates startling commonalities among Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. Shades of difference between Islam's foundation and that of its counterparts prove more fascinating than divisive, e.g., Islam claims a direct line with Abraham via the latter's cast-off son, Ismael, while Judaism is linked to Abraham's more favored child, Isaac. Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and the angel Gabriel each play major roles in the Quran; it was Gabriel, in fact, who transmitted the Word of God to the 40-year-old, seemingly ordinary Muhammad in the 7th century, making him extraordinary to millions today. Sure, anti-Western sentiment creeps into the story, but in every important way Inside Islam is an antidote to gross anti-Muslim bigotry. --Tom Keogh

"a documentary covering the basic 5 pillars of islam. this video or dvd is perfect for anyone who wishes to get a quick overview of islam, without delving too heavily into a long and drawn out history lesson. a simple feature covering the basics of islam and the practice and following of muslims, who muhammad was, and how the religion follows many of the same beleifs of the bible, and prophets therein.

"I really enjoyed this film.
I see that the other reviewers think it was biased. The point of the film was to introduce islam to people who don't know anything about it. I thought it was a wonderful film. It was not biased. The things ommitted had cause to be left out, because not all muslims share in the beliefs(Such as death penalty, that is not in the Quran!!!). The complexities can not be explained in one single film. I thought it was a very nice introduction, and quite accurate. I have been studying a lot on Islam and I definitely recommend this DVD. Very informative and captivating speakers! Beautiful footage!

"(Is it a lie that in Afghanistan and Nigeria and Iran under Sharia law that Women are oppressed, not allowed out of the house and not allowed to go to college and that they must eb covered head to toe regardless of wheher they want to or not. Islam opposes abortion, something not mentioned in the film. Islam supports the ddeath penalty, also not mentioned. In all islamic countries Gays are persecuted and ahrrased and threateend with prosecution, also not mentioned.)
Let me respond first of all to this review and everyone else who says Islam is a religion of terror. It may be that women are oppressed in so called Islamic countries, but this is do to the culture of the country, not the relgion. Islam is not a facist religion of hate but has been the most peaceful among the three monotheistic faiths. It has lived sided by side with Christians and Jews and allowed them to worship freely when Muslims were in charge for more than a thousand years.
This film shows some aspects of Islam but it is still missing a few elements. It has some good points and is certainly worth watching but one should not judge Islam just from watching this film, nor from hearing comments like the ones stated in the reviews. As far as things left out like the death penalty and Jihad, Saudi Arabia enforces the Death Penalty and chops a persons head off for murder. Beacuse of strict laws like this, it has the lowest crime rat in the world.
Compare that with America who leads all industrialized nations in murder , rape , robbery, drug abuse, larceny, and embbezzlemnet. Who is oppressed, A muslim woman who covers herself up and does not need to struggle to work, or the American woman, who if is on her own and cannot find a job, must resort to pornography and prostitution to survive.
Jihad is being misused and I a condemn Bin Laden and his crew,
but as for Muslims being oppressed in Israel, who is really a terrorist. We must not be confused with resistance and Terror. Jihad is to defend ones person or estate and never to kill innocent people. I reccomend reading the Idiots guide to Islam, if one is serious about understanding Islam.

"This beautiful film certainly does make one wonder why Islam is so often accused of viscious crimes. It also makes one wonder why it is that most Muslim countries are dictatorships and that women in most muslim countries have little to no rights. The reason that you will see none of this in the documentary is because this is pure propoganda, the movie might as well be called 'convert to the worlds fastest growing religion'.
I was not impressed with this film. It could have tried to be less biased. I imagine if the same directors had made a film about christianity they would have also enlightened the viewer to the dark side of chirsendom, namely the inquisition and the crusades.
This is a pure puff piece, not informative about much of what goes on in Islam. This film doesnt go into some of the more crude parts of the Hajj, where Sheep are 'sacrificed' by having their throats slit. This film doesnt touch on many of the parts of the Koran that are offensive and anti christian and anti-Jewish. The film doesnt touch on what the meaning of 'Jihad' is and how Islam portrays the world in two parts(Dar al-Islam and Dar al-Harb). The filom could have touched on the sensitive subject of Womens status in Islamic societies but it decided to stay away from that in favor of only telling us about the 'religion of peace'.
This documentary had high hopes and potential but it fails utterly in prtraying an important religion which needs to be understood in the West. Yet understanding does not mean glazing over the negative aspects and having no cirtique. Understanding doesnt mean accepting propoganda, the documentary had a duty to portray all slices of the Koran, not just the 'beautiful' parts.

"The movie doesnt seem to mention some key elements of Islam. THe Koran states that 'Take no christians or Jews as friends'. How is that peaceloving. THe documentary doesnt mention the widespread oppresion of women in Islam. Bill Mar siad it best when he asked "if a woman in Syria or Iran call the police and says 'my husband is beating me' the police will say 'and your point is?'". This book alse leaves otu any critique of Islam like critiques regarding the enslavement of Afircans in the Sudan and Mauritania and also the widespread atrocities committed in the name of Islam in Eastern Europe. The movie is far to biased and not ane xploration rather it is a film that seeks to convert us to this 'fastest gorwing world religion'.
A bunch of lies. A total fabrication of the reality. Most documentaries of christianity mention the crusades so why cant we have some balance here and have this film mention the outright oppression of minorites in all islamic societies?
Is it a lie that in Afghanistan and Nigeria and Iran under Sharia law that Women are oppressed, not allowed out of the house and not allowed to go to college and that they must eb covered head to toe regardless of wheher they want to or not. Islam opposes abortion, something not mentioned in the film. Islam supports the ddeath penalty, also not mentioned. In all islamic countries Gays are persecuted and ahrrased and threateend with prosecution, also not mentioned.
A totally misleading film that only shows the positive side of a religion that has many more aspects to it.
