Socially Perfectionist believe that other people demand perfection of them. People married to Other-oriented Perfectionist will often adapt by becoming Socially Perfectionist themselves. Socially perfectionist often feels they are never meeting the expectations placed on them by others, which inevitably makes them both helpless and hopeless.

Socially Perfectionism is often caused by the neuroticism and a fear that others may think negative about them. They often feel controlled by the forces outside of them and a feeling of unbearable shame if other people's expectations and high standards are not met. This will inevitably result in depression and anxiety, which ultimately leads the Socially Perfectionist person to either become rebellious or by constantly looking for approval from their partner.

You can overcome your Socially Perfectionism:

  • Get a perspective on the importance of meeting your partner's unreasonable expectations, as well as constantly looking to gain their approval.
  • Accept that quite often your partner may not actually have such high expectations on you. Most Socially Perfectionists only perceive that such high standards are set on them.
  • Consider this, does it really matter if other people approve of what you do?
  • Spend time on activities that help you relax and reduce stress levels (such as yoga etc.)
