Divorce rate - 2005 (US)

The US Divorce rate in 2005-2006 has dropped by 2.9% across US. This is a significant drop in the divorce rate.

(If divorce is not avoidable then it is important that you know your legal rights and what you should realistically expect from the law: divorce law)

The divorce rate fell on average by about 2.9% in US between 2005-2006 (from 953,563 to 926,116). However, what is significant about this figure is that the marriage rate has only dropped by 1.9% over the same period (from 2,460,689 to 2,414,069). This drop in marriage rate could be as a result of couples choosing to co-habitat rather than get married. But the significance of this minor drop in marriage rate implies that the divorce rate has actually dropped.

Although the over all divorce rate fell across US in 2005, the following states showed an increase in the divorce rate:

  • Alaska
  • Colorado
  • Delaware
  • District of Columbia
  • Idaho
  • Massachusetts
  • Montana
  • Nebraska
  • Nevada
  • New Mexico
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • Oregon
  • South Dakota
  • Utah
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia
  • Wyoming
  • Puerto Rico
