The Divorce rate in England and Wales (UK) fell in 2005 by 7.7%, however, so did the marriage rate! The marriage rate fell in 2005 by 10.4%.

(If divorce is not avoidable then it is important that you know your legal rights and what you should realistically expect from the law: divorce law)

The divorce rate fell by 7.7% in 2005 (England and Wales, UK), compared with 2004. It fell from 153,294 in 2004 to 141,583 in 2005. This has been one of the largest drops in the divorce rate in years. The greatest drop in divorce rate has been for men and women under the age of 40. The divorce rate for men and women under the age of 40 has dropped by 13% and 12% respectively, the largest drop since 1988, for men, and 1990, for women.

There has also been a drop in the divorce rate in Scotland and Northern Ireland, by 3% and 6% respectively.

An interesting statistics is that more women were granted divorce based on adultery of their husband than men (the statistics were 23% and 18% respectively). Also, what may be of relevance is that far greater number of women were granted divorce on the grounds of "behaviour" (please see Divorce Law - Behaviour) than men. A staggering 53% of all women who filled for divorce proved that it was because of the unreasonable behaviour of their husband. Where as only 31% of men were granted divorce because of the "behaviour" of their wives.
