Divorce Rate - 2006 (UK)

The Divorce rate in England and Wales (UK) fell in 2006 by 6.87% per thousand couple married, however, so did the marriage rate! The marriage rate fell in 2006 by 4%, the lowest since the record started.

The divorce rate fell by 6.87% per thousand couple married in 2006 (England and Wales, UK), compared with 2005. The total number of divorces in England and Wales fell from 141,750 in 2005, to 132,562 in 2006. However, this drop in the divorce rate was also accompanied by a massive drop in the marriage rate. The marriage rate in 2006 was the lowest since the record started. This statistic also implies that less people are getting married for the sake of being married, which naturally then follows that when married the couples would then work harder at making the marriage work.

The Divorce statistics in England and Wales (UK) also shows that more women have been granted divorce than men (please note that this could simply be that its the women that have filled for the divorce rather than the men). The top three reasons for granting divorce to women were, Unreasonable behavioral (48,782 women were granted separation under this category compared with 13,452 men), with Separation With Consent as the second largest (18,486 women were granted separation under this category compared with 13,308 men) and Adultery (16,108 women were granted separation compared with 8,828 men) as the third largest category for which divorce was granted.
